In recent years the amount of air purifiers bought in Japan has increased dramatically according a report from: http://www.gfkrt.com/
Due to the arrival of super flu’s – swine flu and bird flu, it is though that consumers are buying their own protection by obtaining air purifiers to clean their home air. The recession has also led to people staying in rather than spending money by going out.
The new generation “ionizer purifiers” help to remove odours and bacteria and have led to new consumers entering the purifier market. Last year, Ion based purifiers made up 26% of all air purifiers sold.
Consumers are happy to purchase air purifiers if they feel it will protect them in the long run from medical costs.
So unlike other electronics the purifier market is on the increase and Gfkt expect it to increase again in 2010.
