Therapure 201M Review: what’s good and what’s not

Jun 28 2010 Published by admin under Budget Purifiers

For many people, there is nothing more important than to ensure that they are
breathing in a right environment. These are the people who don’t mind spending top
dollar to get a sophisticated air purifier. Well, if you are also quite worried about the
indoor air quality of your home or office, you can consider buying Therapure 201M air
purifier.

Therapure_201M

When you dig deeper into the details and read the Therapure 201M reviews, it becomes
evident that it is popular for many good reasons. The first impressive thing about
this particular air filter is its amazing power. Precisely, it can generate a power of
120-145 cubic ft/min. However, it is important to mention that it doesn’t come with
AHAM- CADR, which stands for Certified Clean Air Delivery Rate. This is quite
discouraging, but there are some other features that are sure to impress you a lot.
Its sleek design will impressive you for sure. It is due to its compact size that you put
it anywhere in your home. It doesn’t take a lot of your precious real estate, which
is one great feature in its own specific way. What’s more, it comes with permanent
HEPA-type filter, which works extremely well to remove dust, smoke, and pollen from
air. Here, it is important to mention that there is some difference between a True
HEPA and a HEPA-type filter, and you should be willing to learn more about it before
you go on to make a purchase.

Deals on Air Purifiers:

In this Therapure 201M review, it is quite essential to point out that it comes with a HEPA-
type filter, which is not as effective as a true HEPA filter – a true HEPA filter
can capture .3 micron particulate. Still, you will find 201M coming with great cleaning
power, and as it comes with UV lamp, it is capable of killing most harmful airborne
bacteria, germs, and viruses. What’s more, it also has photo catalyst filter that can
remove carpet fumes, toxic paints, and other household chemicals. When all this is at
work, you are sure to breathe in clean and clear air.

The fact of the matter is that though Therapure 201M is not “tremendous” as
compared to some of the modern more expensive purifiers, it is still capable of providing
you with clean air. Therefore, without a doubt, it is worth your investment!

10 Historical Air Purifier Inventions

Jun 21 2010 Published by admin under Blog,Featured

An enemy you can’t see, taste, or touch is not far from you as you read this sentence.  It’s not an enemy like a lion or a shark that you can avoid. No.  This enemy kills us by working with the very thing we can’t live without… breathable air.

I’m talking about toxic fumes, and they are as ubiquitous today as cars and factories. And if it wasn’t for inventions like the following 10, you would drop dead before you finished this line.

1. The Stenhouse gas mask, 1854

Stenhouse gas mask

A chemist by trade, John Stenhouse began experimenting with charcoal filters as an air purifier as early as the 1850’s.  The unit he devised called for wire gauze “filters”, which held powdered charcoal as the filtering ingredient. His findings led to the invention of the gas mask, used in London factories as a personal “air purifier” to protect workers from toxic gas.

2. Barton’s respirators, c. 1874

Barton's respirators

In 1874, Samuel Barton filed for patent for the canister gas mask… one of the most advanced air purifiers of the time. Air impurities where lifted as the user inhaled through a tri-layer filtering system, which was strapped to the face via head harness and face cover. The invention also included a revolutionary air recycling system, whereby clean air was cycled through a secondary filter to remove carbon dioxide.

3. Carbon Filtering – 1862

carbon filtering The carbon filter was invented in 1862, and was originally used to purify water.  Its transition into an air purifier occurred in 1872, when Allen and Alvin E. Rice advanced the technology by creating a 2 stage filtration based on activated carbon.  In modern day, air purifiers built around the carbon filter are used to purge air of vapors, odors, and hydrocarbons… as well as the basis of today’s spacesuit breathing system.

4. First Vacuum – 1901

BoothVacuumCleaner

While riding the train, Hubert Cecil Booth began breathing dust laden air through a handkerchief during a moment of inspiration.  The moment spurred Booth on to the 1901 invention of “Puffing Billy”, the world’s first vacuum cleaner. The unit ran on an oil engine and is a precursor for more advanced air purifier systems.

5. First Air Conditioner – 1906

Carrier_Willis

Patents #808 and #897 are the soil from which today’s air conditioner bloomed.  By using centrifugal force and a complex system of filters and coolants, Carrier (the unit’s inventor) birthed a robust air purifier and cooling system.  Not only did his invention purify air and control temperature, but it also curbed humidity and manipulated air circulation.

6. Electrostatic Precipitator – 1908

Electrostatic Precipitator

Dr. Frederick G. Cottrell invented the electrostatic precipitator, a device which created and collected charged particles. Cottrell’s apparatus found use in smelting factories and vineyards, where sulfuric acid and lead oxide fumes which once polluted the air could be collected and eliminated. The technology evolved to become a key component in publically-marketed air purifier units.

7. The First Personal Air Purifier – 1914

 morgan

Garret Morgan filed for patent in 1914, having invented a device that resembles the mask of an ancient scuba diving suit.  A long tube runs from the mask down to the floor, sitting below lighter-than-air gases. The filter in the “air purifier” itself mimics the body’s mucous membrane, cleansing inhaled air by running it through a wet sponge lining. And what does a user do when the gas is heavier than air? Elevate the tube above the gas…

8. HEPA – Filters – 1940’s

hepa filter

The USA Atomic Energy Commission invented the HEPA filter during the Manhattan Project, seeing a need for a system to clean air contaminated with radioactive particles.  After World War 2, the HEPA filter was released to the public and is now used by air purifier companies as a heavy-duty filtration device.

9. Rufus Stokes  – Air Factory Purification Device, 1968

400px-Rufus_Stokes_Patent

Rufus Stokes invented the “clean air machine”, a device used on smoke stacks to clean the emissions.  His invention drastically reduced the amount of ash and gases that made it beyond the stacks, leaving behind virtually transparent releases.  The boost in air quality improved the health of people, plants and animals living in the vicinity of commercial furnaces and power plants.

10. NASA Space Air Cleaner Laser – 2004

clean_me_earth

In an invention that sounds like something out of Star Wars, NASA created the Low-Temperature Oxidation Catalyst (LTOC) in 2004.  LTOC began as a method for lasers to control carbon monoxide in space.  Now, researchers are finding applications for air purification on Earth, using the tech in automobile catalytic converters.

Lennox air purifier review

Jun 19 2010 Published by admin under Top End Purifiers

The know-how that has been put to use in the famous Lennox Healthy Climate EAC-20 is the latest and most advanced. That is the reason why these purifiers work out to be really effective and trap all the possible toxins from coming indoors. The air inside your home is not clean, and you can find all sorts of dust and dirt particles with pollen, moulds and a hundred other variants that you are not even aware of. These can cause a whole lot of chain reactions such as polluted indoor air that can lead to dizziness, headaches, migraines and sinus. When these problems need to be prevented then the people shouldn’t be exposed to these pollutants. These products have the capacity to ensure a better and more powerful form of filtration.

lennox-air-purifier-review

The air that is sucked into the air purifier has to first go through the pre-filter. This is the place wherein all the large dirt particles get trapped. The pre-filter can get enclosed with the large dust particles and this can affect its efficacy. Therein it is a good idea to clean them periodically to ensure that the efficiency at which they operate remains the same.

Once they clean the large particles, they push air through the ionizing wires. These wires have the capability of being able to trap and clear all smaller particles out of the air. They give out a positive electrical charge. The smaller particles that are positively charged by this method are made to pass through a filter that has a negative charge. The negatively charged filter attracts all smaller particles. The particles hang on to the filter and are thus eliminated from the air. Once all the large as well as the small particles are out of your home, the air is then made to pass through a specifically designed carbon filter. The addition of a carbon filter to this particular air purifier depends on the customer. This is not something that defines the removal of contaminants and particles that are air borne. But, the carbon filter is able to remove a whole lot of unpleasant stagnant smell from the air. The moment the air is made to pass through the carbon filter, the unpleasant smells no longer have their potency. This leaves the air smelling fresh and clean. Lastly, the air is passed through the last filter in the air purifier. This brings it into the HVAC system and is sent back into the house.

EAC-20 Lenox Healthy Climate are one of the best devices to ensure that you have a home that is not only comfortable but perfectly safe too. The indoor air that is filtered using this powerful device ensures that it is completely pure and bereft of any contaminants and odors. At the same time it is completely safe for your health too.

The effective way in which this air purifier works is because of the wonderful know-how that has been put to use in the form of filters and other mediums in it. This was the right way to design the filter so as to ensure the best possible outcome. The Lenox Healthy Climate EAC-20 air purifiers have enabled many a family to be able to breathe easy in their own homes. When you know that the air inside your house is pure and clean, there are hardly any chances of you falling prey to any kind of illness or allergies. You will not have to encounter any kind of asthma or allergy reaction. If you want to be sure that your family is certainly breathing in air that is one hundred percent clean and pure, then the installation of a air purifier is the only option.

How can air purifiers counteract cigarette smoke?

Jun 17 2010 Published by admin under Blog,Top End Purifiers

When you encounter an atmosphere where you become a passive smoker because it’s a smoking environment and the air is filled with smoke from cigarettes, pipes, cigars and the like. This smoke is also known as environmental tobacco smoke. It has a very strong odor to it. Passive smoking is very dangerous. The pollutants remain trapped and pollute the air completely. It gets trapped in any kind of weaves such as furniture, clothes, carpet and rugs. This can result in a very obnoxious smell. Even more dangerous it is one of the major health hazards in the world today. There are close to 4,000 chemicals that a passive smoker inhales. Over 40 of them are cancerous. Besides this passive smoking also irritates your respiratory system and causes irritation to your throat, lung, and windpipe.

cigarette_smoke

This results in second hand smoking which is extremely dangerous to all around. The most affected are children. The more that a person is exposed to passive smoke, the more will be the decrease in their lungs to be able to function effectively. This kind of smoke increases the asthma symptoms that are associated with childhood. It can go on to increase the severity of cystic fibrosis, rhinitis, sinusitis, and several respiratory problems like cough and post-nasal drip. Children, whose parents are smokers and smoke about half a pack of cigarettes a day, are at a far greater risk of being hospitalized for the above mentioned ailments. Children are not the only ones, people of any age can be at a risk of the harmful impact of smoking on their overall health. Passive smoking the constant exposure to it, has been considered to be one of the greatest reasons for lung and throat cancer and emphysema.

Tobacco smoke can go ahead and cause damage to your property and valuables too. It has tar inside it that can cling on to carpets, walls, clothing and other articles. This can be the most damaging thing to happen to your precious valuables. It also leaves behind an ugly film of liquid tar on it.

The exposure to second hand smoke is one of the most difficult to remove from a house. The air traps these contaminants and then they remain hovering around for a long time. There are also several different chemicals in a cigarette or pipe that you smoke. It is a good idea to smoke in the outdoors. But, if that is not possible, then the best option is to buy an air purifier. This is one way of protecting yourself and cleansing the air within the household. The air purifier not only cleans the air but also removes the cancer causing particles that are in the smoke contaminated room. Usually, a combination of air purifiers with different treatments has to be used to eliminate second hand smoke. Since the Hepa filter cannot remove all the gases and chemicals, secondary filtration is really important. It is usually used by utilizing activated carbon. There are also specialized air cleaners that have tar filters or carbon blends that work exceedingly well. this helps in the overall improvement of their working.

What we suggest is the use of an Airpura T600 air purifier. This has been specially made for tobacco smoke contamination. It has a medical grade Hepa filter fitted to it along with a tar filter and large carbon filter that has been activated. All of this ensures that the air purifier is able to work at the maximum level and work to remove all the gases and chemicals that harm one. Moreover, it also removes harmful particles that remain hanging in the atmosphere. To remove tar, chemicals and smells that accompany smoke, the Airpura T600 air purifier is the one that is recommended. It also has an extremely efficient fan that has the effect on more cubic meters of air per minute as compared to other cleaners currently available in the market. It is also very noise effective and easy on the ears.

There are other alternatives as well that can help with the elimination of tobacco induced smoke. These alternatives include a good air cleaner, Hepa filter and an activated carbon filtration. Also, the Austin Air Healthmate and Healthmate+ Series and several Airpura air purifier models have been made for VOC and to reduce the chemicals to the bare minimum.

Holmes HAP625 Air Purifier

Jun 05 2010 Published by admin under Budget Purifiers

The Holmes HAP625 Air Purifier is a portable air purifier that lets you clean the air in the room quietly and efficiently. It provides genuine High Energy Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration, which is a very desirable feature in an air purifier. The many great features of the Holmes HAP625 make this an air purifier that is worth your considerations. But first, a few basic pros and cons of this model.

Holmes HAP625 Air Purifier

Among the "pros" of the Holmes HAP625 are that the machine is small and can be positioned either upright or on its side so it can be made to fit a variety of spaces, and can even go on a shelf. The HEPA filter is well sealed with a gasket so that no unclean air taken up by the machine is able to bypass the filter. Additionally, the Holmes HAP625 is very quiet, producing under 50 decibels on its top speed setting.

The main "con" of the Holmes HAP625 is that it is small, and can only purify the air in rooms that are around 200 square feet in area or smaller. Also, carbon filters will have to be replaced every few months to get the best smoke, gas, and chemical odor removal.

The HEPA filter in the Holmes HAP625 air purifier is some of the best HEPA technology use available. Because it is a true HEPA filter, it has to remove at least 99.97% of particles from the air that are 0.3 microns in size or larger. Therefore, almost all the airborne particles that can aggravate allergies and asthma are removed from the air by a HEPA filter. And the gasket around the HEPA filter ensures that of all the air that is taken into the air purifier, it cannot bypass the filter, but must instead pass through the filter and be cleaned.
The activated carbon pre-filter in the Holmes HAP625 is another great feature. It performs two basic functions: it helps capture large particles in the air, removing them from the path of the main HEPA filter, and it also traps harmful gases and odors due to the shape and arrangement of the carbon molecules. Activated carbon is capable of breaking down some 4,000 chemicals and odors, removing them from the environment. They work better than any air freshener could at eliminating odors.

The Holmes HAP625 is designed to work in small rooms – up to around 200 square feet in area. In a room this size, it will change the air six times in one hour, which is considered the optimal rate of air movement through an air purifier. While it will purify the air in larger rooms, it will not be able to change the air as many times in one hour, so it will not be optimal filtration. For example, a room with 525 square feet in area will only get 2 complete air changes in one hour, which is helpful, but not ideal.

For optimal performance, the filters in the Holmes HAP625 will need to be changed regularly so that they don’t clog. This includes both the HEPA filter and the carbon pre-filter. If the filters are allowed to become too clogged, there is the possibility that the motor will burn out. The HEPA filter will have to be replaced every one to two years, at a cost of around $30 per filter.. The frequency with which you’ll need to change the carbon filter is usually around 3 to 4 months, but if there is smoking in the area, these filters will clog faster and have to be replaced more frequently. The carbon filters come in packages of 4 that cost around $16.95.

The Holmes HAP625 runs very quietly because the HEPA filter has been treated so that it captures the maximum number of particles while still allowing good air flow. On its loudest setting, it only produces 50 decibels, while running the purifier on "silent" mode takes the noise down to 30 decibels, which is very quiet, particularly for an air purifier.

The Holmes HAP625 retails for around $50. This is a great price for a HEPA air purifier. It also comes with a 5-year warranty, which is longer than many air purifier warranties. In addition to the filtration technologies, it also has some great extras. A lighted color display tells you when the filters need to be replaced, and the space saving design lets you place the machine right next to a wall and have it still run efficiently. This is a great, inexpensive air purifier that can give you years of faithful service. The level of purification it provides is high, while filter replacement costs are more reasonable than for most air purifiers.

Surround Air Purifier

Jun 04 2010 Published by admin under Budget Purifiers,Medium Purifiers

Surround Air is a leading manufacturer of air purifiers and air cleaners for both residential and commercial use. The brand uses proven technological features such as HEPA filters, activated carbon, and ultraviolet (UV) light.

Surround Air Purifier

As just one example, the Surround Air Multi-Tech Air Purifier removes a number of pollutants, including dust and dust mites that are captured by the HEPA filter. The ionizer in the air purifier increases the efficiency of the filters. It does this because it causes airborne particles to "clump" together, which makes them easier to catch. Additionally, according to the US Department of Agriculture, negative ions cause particles in the air to "drop out" from the air, and are very good at keeping dust out of the air that you breathe.

Ultraviolet light not only kills dust mites, but if it radiates in the proper wavelengths, it can kill airborne pathogens like viruses and bacteria. A high quality UV lamp is a great feature to have on an air purifier, particularly in settings where a person’s immune system is compromised, or where someone is caring for a sick person and wants to minimize the chances of catching the viral or bacterial illness.

Surround Air HEPA air filters are great at capturing mold spores and microscopic fungi from the air. The ionizers help in this process, and the UV lamps will kill toxins associated with mold. Surround Air ozone sanitizers are very effective against smells such as the smell of mildew, and the ozone sanitizers can be switched off and on separately from the rest of the machine if desired.

The Surround Air Multi-Tech carbon filter absorbs cigarette smoke particles and other toxins contained in cigarette smoke. With the help of the ozone sanitizer, the carbon filter helps eliminate the odors from cigarette smoke. Additionally, the ionizer helps remove smoke particles from the air, making it much cleaner.

Another great feature of the Surround Air purifiers is that they can significantly decrease the amount of carbon monoxide in the air. Carbon monoxide is odorless, but can be very dangerous. The study on ozone removal was done in a London hospital and was published in a scientific journal, the European Respiratory Journal.

When it comes to removing bacteria from the air, Surround Air uses several approaches at once. The HEPA filter, the carbon pre-filter, and the UV lamp all attack bacteria. Additionally, a study by the US Department of Agriculture showed that ionizers are very effective at removing bacteria from the air.

Pollen and other airborne allergens are all but eliminated by HEPA filters, which are considered by most sources to be the most effective filters for allergens. The ionizers on Surround Air purifiers help increase the efficiency of the filters by causing particles to clump together. This makes them easier to trap and remove from the air. The ionizer also causes airborne particles to precipitate out of indoor air it captures.

With chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the Surround Air purifiers’ carbon filters are extremely effective absorbers. This means that chemical and gas smells are effectively removed, and the ionizers help to neutralize chemical smells even more. Germs and virus are effectively removed and killed by the Surround Air UV lamps, which radiate in wavelengths that are fatal to airborne bacteria and viruses.

In summary, Surround Air brand purifiers use numerous approaches to cleaning the air, all of which work together to achieve superior results at reducing indoor air pollution.

HEPA Furnace Filters

Jun 03 2010 Published by admin under Budget Purifiers

A lot of people wonder about using HEPA filters for their home’s air conditioning and heating system, and this is a great question. HEPA, which stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air filters must capture at least 99.97% of all particles that are 0.3 microns in diameter or larger. One micron is one millionth of a meter, or one thousandth of a millimeter and is some 300 times smaller than a human hair diameter. HEPA filters can filter out particles that are too small to see with the unaided eye.

It turns out that HEPA filters can be used with home furnace and air conditioning systems, and they are among the most efficient available. A HEPA filter removes almost all the allergens that are routed through a home furnace or air conditioning system. They remove pet dander, dust mites, mold spores, pollen, and other common home allergens.

HEPA filters are often used in places where the air must be clean, such as in hospital rooms, clean rooms for high-tech manufacturing, surgery suites, and other places where the maximum particle filtration is of utmost importance. They are also used in appliances like HEPA air purifiers and on vacuum cleaners. One choice of HEPA furnace filter is the RiteAir HEPA-Pure, a filter that has over 7 pleats per inch, giving the filter the maximum surface area for catching particles. Filters like the HEPA-Pure can be vacuumed multiple times to extend the time between replacement.

HEPA furnace filters are great choices for providing relief for those who have asthma or allergies because of their superior ability to trap pollen, pet dander, mold, skin flakes, and other airborne particles. If you do choose a HEPA furnace filter, it is very important that it be maintained faithfully. Once a HEPA furnace filter becomes clogged, air flow through the furnace system will be greatly reduced, and the filter will be to clogged to do much good.

HEPA furnace filters in some ways look like regular filters. However, the filtration material in HEPA furnace filters is different from the filtration materials used in regular filters in that it is a denser material to be able to catch small particles. Additionally, HEPA furnace filters are pleated, giving the filter the maximum amount of surface area for filtering particles out of the air. The pleats also have the effect of extending the useful life of a HEPA filter, because dust will collect in the deepest folds of the pleats first, whereas if the filter were not pleated, the dust would clog the HEPA filter much more quickly.

HEPA furnace filters make a great choice for home furnace and air conditioning systems. They come in the same standard sizes as normal furnace filters, though they cost more. On the other hand, with proper maintenance, HEPA furnace filters can outlast regular filters due to their pleated design. They are very efficient at keeping the air inside your house clearer from allergens such as pollen, pet dander, and mold.
