Honeywell 17000 Air Purifier Review

Mar 17 2010 Published by admin under Budget Purifiers

The Honeywell 17000 is a purifier that can provide good air cleaning for small rooms and has very low running costs.

Honeywell Air Purifier 17000

What other consumers think?

PRICE = $130 (Amazon.com)

Before we go into the technologies that power the Honeywell 17000, we can quickly see what other consumers think by checking out Amazon.com and Epinions.com. This purifier has high rankings from both these sites and based on consumer comments, a lot of consumers think very positively about this purifier.

Review Site Rating
Amazon.com 4 Stars (112reviews)
Epinions.com 3.5 Stars (19 reviews)

CADR Rating: 130

When checking the latest CADR results for the 17000 air cleaner it scored the following scores for clean air delivery:

  • Dust Particles: 130
  • Tobacco Smoke: 130
  • Plant Pollen: 130

In comparison with other budget purifier this is a relatively poor score and indicated that it has a weak airflow. The AHAM suggested that this purifier should only be used in rooms small than 168 square foot and i would argue that this is the largest room size for this type of purifier. If you used the 17000 in a bigger room you would very likely be let down by it’s inability to clean the air.

Consumer Reports

This purifier was reviewed by consumer reports in October 2005 and was ranked 23rd of the 30 air cleaners that were tested. Consumer Reports are not perfect but it’s still worth taking into account when looking to buy an air purifier.

Deals on Air Purifiers:

What type of technology

The 17000 air purifier has a side mounted access unit which houses the HEPA filtration system. This purifier seals tightly and very little air can bypass the filters. We often find with budget purifier that gaps due to poor construction can allow a bypass of air which improves CADR score but does not stop the tiny particles that cause health problems.

The filter for this Honeywell 17000 is a true HEPA system and will stop 99.97% of all particles bigger than 0.3 microns. If you require a purifier to clean up more than plant pollen then you will always require true HEPA. The latest Honeywell HEPA filters are called the “lifetime” filters which can be vacuumed cleaned rather than replaced annually.

Note: Be aware that lifetime filters are a brand name rather than a promise – they will still need replacing but not as often.

HEPA lifetime filters do reduce the costs of using the 17000 and compares favourably with other budget purifiers were yearly filter replacements can cost more than the purifier!

Conclusion

The Honeywell 17000 is a solid budget purifier that is very cheap to run. Like many cheap purifier it has no ability to deal with VOC’s or odours – you will need to spend above $700 to obtain a purifier capable of that.

If you need a purifier for a small room and want to keep costs to a minimum then the 17000 air purifier could be the air cleaner for your home. We provide this purifier 5 stars and happily recommend it to purifier customers.

Therapure air purifier reviews

Mar 16 2010 Published by admin under Budget Purifiers

The Therapure range of air purifiers are the successors of the Sharper image ionic air purifiers. We suspect they use more ozone than is acceptable but customers seems to like them and they are far more durable than the older sharper image ionic purifiers.Therapure-air-purifier PRICE = $100 (Amazon.com)

What are Therapure purifiers?

  • Therapure air purifiers happen to be fashionable, affordable, and provide technological know-how – Ultra violet photocatalytic oxidation – previously supplied only inside more expensive products.
  • Large box stores such as Target, Costo, Home Depot, and even Wal-Mart – have acquired the Therapure selection in spite of the air purifier product sales slowdown last year.
  • Therapure 201 uses HEPA-Type filtration systems, a germ targetted Ultra violet light, plus a photocatalyst to be able to oxidize chemical substances and also smells.
  • Early on buyer reaction for the 201 by Thearpure had been good, 110 user evaluations at walmart.com have become upbeat.
  • Nevertheless, advertising geniuses frequently take liberties using the facts.
  • We discover considerable improper use of lingo, particularly "HEPA" and also "CADR, throughout Therapure internet marketing.
  • Therapure 201 is actually promoted as possessing "tremendous power,"     and that is around one-hundred-twenty – 145 cubic ft for every minute (cfm) using the best of 3 fan configurations.
  • There isn’t any AHAM-certified Clear Air flow Delivery Rate (CADR) for virtually every Therapure air cleaner.
  • The 145 cfm air flow cleaner is actually not even close to "tremendous," it really is fairly average.
  • "Medium to Huge" 182 square. foot. room size is far too high. We would recommend that you only use this Therapure air cleaner in smaller rooms.

Not a “true” HEPA filter

Even though container is plainly described "HEPA TYPE" filtration system, deceptive advertising, implying that this is the True-HEPA, is duplicated through the entire businesses internet content.

Therapure 201 includes a HEPA-type filtration system stated efficient in eliminating around 99% of airborne contaminants as tiny as 2 microns via air transferring through this purifier.

True HEPA filtration systems tend to be ranked by their capability to catch .3 micron air particles.

This purifier therefore can only handle particles bigger than 2 microns. In the diagram below you can see that only pollen will be captured by such a purifier. Smoke, bacteria, viruses and other air particles will pass through without being caught. If you require a purifier for dealing with breathing health problems then this purifier will be useless.

Air-purifier-chart

Conclusion

This purifier branded as Therapure and created by Ionic Purifiers is an air cleaner that is highly respected by the customers who use it. However we have our reservations regarding how effective this purifier is. We must state that this purifier will be useless for the vast majority of air particles. Like air-purifier-power.com we would like to see lab tests for how much ozone that this purifier releases. If you are looking for a cheap purifier we think there are better options out there for less than $200. Yet this purifier does seem good value for money we don’t recommend against it’s purchase.

What Other Customers Think

Review Site Rating
Amazon.com 4.5 Stars (18reviews)
Epinions.com 5 Stars (4 reviews)

This air purifier created by Vornado and available at Amazon.com and Costco has some very favourable reviews across the internet. Many people seem to really love this purifier and believe that is really alleviates health problems. As expected some customers mention that the unit is a little loud but many reviews are adamant that its really good value for money. The only reason this purifier did not receive 5 stars on amazon.com is due to one customer giving it 1 star. Many other reviewers urge people to ignore this customer review and argue that the reviewer expected too much.  At just over $100 this purifier looks like it could be one of the finest bargain purifiers on the market.

Let us first look a little deeper into how this Vornado purifier works before we give our final recommendation.

CADR Ratings

The current Vornado AQS500 has the following CADR ratings:

  • Results for smoke removal: 102
  • Results for dust removal: 149
  • Results for pollen removal: 185

The CADR evaluation recommends that this purifier be used in rooms up to 324 square foot. We often suggest that the CADR recommendations are often too high so we recommend that this Vornado air cleaner should be used in rooms no bigger than 256 square foot.

Filter Replacement and Costs

You have to be wary of the cost of replacement filters with many budget air purifiers. You will often find that the replacement filters can cost more in a year than the price of the unit! The Vornado AQS500 filters cost $25 and need to be replaced either once or twice a year depending on usage. These costs are actually quite good in comparison with other purifiers on the market.

Conclusion:

This budget air purifier from Vornado is a very good appliance for cleaning air in a small room in your house. We would only suggest this purifier for small rooms as it will not be able to deal with medium-large rooms. The price of filters are reasonable and this purifier is very good value for money. We provide the Vornado AQS500 air purifier with a 5 star rating and happily recommend it to consumers.

Mar 12 2010 Published by admin under Medium Purifiers

This unique brand new collection of air purifiers offered by Lowe’s were created to assist you breathe much better, live more healthy and supply cleaner air flow in your house. Every device contains HEPA filtration systems which eliminate as much as 99.97% of air based contaminants which worsen delicate allergy symptoms. 2 Idylis™ versions feature UV-C technologies that focuses on airborne cold virus and flu-causing bacteria and they are also Power STAR® ranked to assist saving electricity and cash also.

Idylis items look good along with their smooth flat front panel, offer an simple to clean layout that mixes effortlessly with any kind of house’s décor.

idylis-air-purifier-280

PRICE = $299 (Lowes.com – Idylis 280)

The History Of Idylis Appliances

The Idylis 280 and also the Idylis 200 air cleaners are Korean exports constructed by the Coway Company. Looking at the business in 1989, Coway had surfaced as a force within the Korean household market. In Korea, Coway retains more than 50 % share of the market for drinking water purification products, and 40 % of the actual household air purifier industry. This kind of substantial installed base facilitates the corporation’s bid to look worldwide.

Heading worldwide means infiltrating the overbuilt United States air purifying marketplace. Coway identifies that items bought from the U.S. will require different style from those targeted at Southeast Asian countries. Therefore when the organization introduced stateside in Los Angeles throughout 2007, it went for a 2 tiered strategy. Coway’s Idylis-branded 2nd collection items were sold and promoted solely by the large US merchant Lowe’s.

Idylis made an appearance on Lowe’s shelves throughout April, ’09, following  a major problem with Hunter Permalife filter. It seems that Lowes has made a good buying decision this time!

CADR Ratings

The main Idylis purifiers are the following:

  • Idylis 100 – costing $89,
  • Idylis 125 – costing $128,
  • Idylis 150 – costing $167,
  • Idylis 200 – costing $246,
  • Idylis 280 – costing $299.

These purifiers seem to have been created for CADR-marketing. Which means powerful fans and also free fitted filter systems – decreased effectiveness, particularly wherever very small sub-micron measured contaminants are involved.

CADR rankings for the Idylis "280" happen to be;

  1. Airborne dirt and dust – 290
  2. Cigarette Smoke – 280
  3. Plant pollen – 285

AHAM suggests the Idylis 280 for use in a 434 sq ft . space. As normal, this really is over-stated. If the claimed sound specs cited below confirm accurate, the large Idylis may have the ability to operate on increased rates of speed and earn a space size bigger than it’s CADR rating.

Till much more information come to light, I am would recommend the 280 for room spaces up to a utmost of 320 square foot.

CADR rankings for the Idylis "200" are;

  1. Airborne dirt and dust – 215,
  2. Cigarette Smoke – 200,
  3. Plant pollen – 215.

AHAM recommends the Idylis 200 for use in a 310 sq feet space – I suggest this purifier for a room with a maximum size of 230 square ft.

The CADR scores for both these purifier are very high, the normal CADRs are usually from 100 (very weak) to a highest of 450 (unusual).

Filter Replacement and Costs

The cost of filters is something you need to be careful about when buying mid range and cheap air purifiers. With the Idylis range – the replacement purifiers cost the following:

  • The filter replacements for the Idylis 280 cost $70 for both filters.
  • The filter replacement cost for the Idylis 200 costs $50 for both required filters.

The costs of filters is very reasonable for such a cheap purifier.

How Loud Is This Purifier?

Another issue with mid and low priced purifier is the sound they make. Often cheaper purifiers can be so loud that you can’t not run them for long amounts of time on their highest setting. The marketing material that comes with the range of Idylis air purifiers states the following:

High speed sound = 42.5 dB which is 290 CADR rating for less than 42 d(B)A sound level! This sound to cleaning rate is one of the highest we have come across in the mid range priced purifiers.

Most silent air purifier are only found in the $700+ range such as the Airgle 750.

Conclusion:

The Idylis range of air purifiers are well rounded purifiers that offer great value for money. If you can pick one up at Lowes then we recommend that you go for the Idylis 280 to get the most cleaning per $. We give the Idylis air purifiers a score of 5 stars and will be providing a video review in the next few days.

Whirlpool Whispure 510 Air Purifier

This article will review the following air purifier: Whirlpool Whispure AP510

Whirlpool-Whispure-510-Air-Purifier

PRICE = Should be $399 – Amazon.com [however a lack of stock means that one only seller is selling it for: $649.00!!]

It always worth check out what other consumers think of this purifier before we dig deep into the technology behind this purifier. We check the major internet retailers who provide their consumers with a chance to rate their purchase.

Review Site Rating
Amazon.com 4.5 Stars (18 reviews)
Epinions.com 4.5 Stars (16 reviews)
Shopping.com 4.5 Stars (16 reviews)

The Whispure has had some of the highest review ratings we have ever seen for a medium price range air purifier.

What have other experts said about this purifier?

Air-Purifier-Power: Has given this purifer a score of 81 out of 100URL

CADR Rating

  • Whispure 510 air purifier created by Whirlpool had been ranked # 2 out of 30, and also showcased as being a quick best third party recommendation within the Consumer Reports October 2005 assessments.
  • (There has been succeeding CR assessments, however these haven’t been as broadly promoted.)
  • Whirlpool room air purifiers score high throughout clean air delivery ranking for each dollar.
  • This Whispure AP510 offers a typical (CADR) – Clean Air Delivery Rate of 316. CADRs are usually; dirt 330, cigarette smoke 330, plant pollen 288.
  • When it comes to clean air delivery for each $ AP51030S rates the most effective, standing with high quality equipment selling at much higher price.

Filter Technology

  • Whirlpool AP510 provides genuine HEPA degree effectiveness (99.97% of contaminants bigger than .3 micron sizing) air purification in areas up to five hundred sq ft.
  • This particular Whirlpool Whispure air cleaner makes use of 3M Filtrete Genuine Hepa filtration system technologies.
  • When the AP51030S is run regular as suggested, the primary Filtrete Hepa filtration system requires replacement every 12 months.
  • A charcoal pre filter eliminates bigger contaminants in front of the Hepa filtration system. Pre-filter switching is suggested four occasions yearly.
  • AP510 includes a modern filtration system change sign light for both the filtration system and pre-filter.

Weak Ponts

  • AP51030S Weak points; chem/odor, filtration system changes, sound
  • The primary problem could be the particle-only emphasis, there isn’t any actual chemical or smell capacity. With the cost nearly pushing in the direction of $400, and with a few sellers upping costs through the manufacturing gap, we have a price/performance problem.
  • This Whispure 510 purifier’s regular filtration system alterations can end up being annoying.
  • You will find consumer reports of higher costs: replacing filters may equal to 1 / 2 of the acquisition cost each year.
  • Customers record operating the AP510 using the lowest of 4 fan rates of speed more often than not to help keep sound to a whisper.
  • Digital controls consist of an 8-hour snooze function: strike a control button, it decelerates, eight hrs elapses, the Whirlpool Whispure 510 air cleaner instantly increases.

Overall this Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier is a really good value for money air cleaner. The problem at the moment is that not enough of these purifier are being made so the price has risen considerably. We will alert our readers as soon as more of these purifier hit the market. We give this purifier 5 stars and recommend  it for purchase if you can get it for $400.

Honeywell 18155 Air Purifier Review

Mar 10 2010 Published by admin under Budget Purifiers

The 18155 created by Honeywell is a cost-effective, yet middle power – HEPA particle filtration system. 18155s are from the 14-inch circular filtration system family of Honeywells.

Honeywell 18155 Air Purifier

What other consumers think?

PRICE = $129 (Amazon.com)

Before we talk in depth about the 18155 purifier it is worth checking out what other consumers think of this air cleaner. Overall this purifier has relatively good reviews from other consumers with the majority of reviews coming from Amazon.com

Review Site Rating
Amazon.com 4 Stars (99 reviews)
Epinions.com 3.5 Stars (2 reviews)
Shopping.com 3.5 Stars (2 reviews)
New Egg 3 Stars (3 user reviews)

CADR Rating: 150,150 and 135

Together with a clean air delivery rates (CADR) of a hundred and fifty airborne dirt and dust, a hundred and fifty smoke, 135 plant pollen, and a strong AHAM given of 230 sq . feet space score, we think this small Honeywell is a little bit over rated.

Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports ranked the 18155 as "reasonable" and "weak" for high-speed and lower speed dirt and cigarette smoke elimination, getting ranked 22 out of 30.

What Sized Room?

This particular air purifier is promoted as offering six air changes for each hr within an 11′ x 17′ space. That is 187 square. foot., below the 230 score awarded by AHAM throughout the CADR accreditation.

Space sizing rankings, according to constant high-speed functioning, certainly are a frustration for buyers. The purifiers are not generally silent enough to operate on high along with human activity, particularly sleeping, within the room.

I suggest the 18155 Honeywell for 144 square. foot. areas, a moderate 12 x 12 room, at the most.

Filter Change?

Brand new 18155s possess the "life time" HEPA glass fibre air filters promoted as practically never needing replacing. In any other case, they’re the same as the 18150. The brand new filters are durable enough to get recurrent vacuuming. A few customers state they experience having to replace these types of filters anyway.

Just like numerous reduced price HEPAs, Honeywell 18155s have got filter expense difficulties. The thirteen dollars to $15 pre-filters on it’s own, if adjusted each and every three months as suggested, equal to the first purchase cost of this air purifier in a little more than 24 months. Lifetime is really a filtration system slogan, not really a guarantee

Conclusion

The Honeywell 18155 is not a bad air purifier for the price of $129 but we would suggest the buyers look at spending a little bit more and purchase the Honeywell 50250 which provides more cleaning per $ spent. In the long-term the 50250 will work out cheaper and your house will be cleaner.

Brookstone Air Purifier

Mar 09 2010 Published by admin under Budget Purifiers

This article will be reviewing air purifiers manufactured by Brookstone which includes the Pure-Ion Advanced Air Cleaner:

Brookstone-air-purifier

PRICE = $199.95 (Amazon.com)

It’s best to first check what the major internet buying consumers think about this air purifier. Many large retailers provide their consumers the ability to rate/review their purchase. We can use these consumer reviews to quickly gauge the general opinion about this Brookstone purifier.

Review Site Rating
Amazon.com 3.5 Stars (3 reviews)
Epinions.com 4.5 Stars (4 reviews)
Shopping.com 3 Stars (2 reviews)

I am not happy with the amount of reviews that are available for this particular purifier. The problem is that when there are only a few reviews, it easy for marketers/manufacturers to publish their own positive reviews that can affect the overall score.

I can not prove that people connected to Brookstone have been publishing false reviews but i will outline some of what i have found out and you can make you own decision.

First review:

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop snoring and breathe better., January 23, 2010

By
Internet shopper "Mike" (New Hampshire, USA) –

Total word count: 900+ words

image

My problem with this review is how detailed it is. It has over 900 words which is impressive for just a normal consumer. I could understand this review being so long if he actually had some sort of grievance or point to make but he just provides a very “professional” review.  This Brookstone purifier review just reads like a marketing message that you would find on a retailers website or the script from a cheesy infomercial.

However you should read the review and decide for yourself.

Second Review

1.0 out of 5 stars filter breaks easily with no replacement sold, August 8, 2009

Barry Obama "2 bigg 2 fail" (DC) – See all my reviews

image

This review looks more real and i can understand why the reviewer has taken the time to write it. They had a grievance with their Brookstone purifier breaking and tells us that the metal fins might not be dishwasher safe. We usually expect that a small number of purifiers will break so this does mean that other customers will have the same problem.

Third Review

5.0 out of 5 stars I have 2 of these and I like the results!, February 22, 2010

By
Bold Consumer (Oklahoma City, OK USA) – See all my reviews

image

Another 5 star review which is highly positive. I clicked through to find out what other products this person has reviewed.

image

Wait, is that 3 reviews in just one day! All the products on the first few pages related to DVD’s that people use when riding their bike indoor which are all sold by third party sellers. I would suggest that this person is a professional Amazon reviewer and provide reviews for $. I suggest you have a look and decide for yourself.

Conclusion Retailer Reviews

I would be very wary of purchasing one of these air purifiers based on the fake reviews and lack of honest positive reviews that are available. The negative review are also very negative relating to the purifier breaking or causing particle build up that makes breathing problems worse.

The next step we take for this air purifier review is to dig a little deeper into what the experts are saying about this purifier:

After reading a couple of different sources (there really is not much about Brookstone purifiers on the net), it seems that the brookstone purifier use the same technology that was used in the now bankrupt Sharper Image purifiers.

When we read the technology details about the Brookstone purifier, it talks about he high CADR rating but then when we click to find out the CADR details we are taken to this page:

image

It seems that Brookstone don’t want to publish their CADR rating as its missing from product information page.

From what i can tell this Brookstone purifier is that it uses an ionization unit primarily then an ozone release as part of its cleaning process. Ozone is a toxic gas and i would recommend that you should keep well away from any purifier that uses it. This is especially true if you have pets, children or elderly people living in your house. You can read more about the dangers of purifiers that use ozone at the EPA government website.

Conclusion

This purifier has a large number of dubious reviews and its technology is both antiquated and dangerous. I would seriously suggest that consumers look elsewhere to find a cheap air purifier. With a budget of $200 there is a still a lot of purifier that will clean the air and not harm your health: Air purifiers for less than $200

We give the Brookstone Air purifier 0 Stars and recommend that consumers keep well away.

Alen a350 Air Purifier Review

Mar 04 2010 Published by admin under Medium Purifiers

The following article is a review of the Alen A350 Air Purifier.Alen a350 Air Purifier

PRICE = $399 (Amazon.com)

Before we start to dig deep into the pros and cons of this particular purifier. It’s worth having a look at what consumers at the major retailers think of this purifier. Most large internet retailers allow consumers the ability to provide a rating for their purchase. I use this rating as an initial way to quickly gauge the performance of an air purifier.

Review Site Rating
Amazon.com 4 Stars (30 reviews)
Epinions.com 5 Stars (8 reviews)
Wize.com 4.5 Stars (77 reviews)
Shopping.com 4.5 Stars (8 reviews)
Air Purifiers America 4.5 out of 119 (10 user reviews)

The Alen a350 purifier has achieved favourable scores across a wide range of sites. I

Note: Air Purifiers America has business connections to Alen so we need to take their scores less seriously than the other more independent retailers.

The video below will take you through a sample of Amazon.com reviews so you can get an idea of what people like/dislike about it:

The next step we take for this air purifier review is to dig a little deeper into what the experts are saying about this purifier:

1. Air Purifier Power – Written By Ed Sherbenou – URL

image

Air-Purifier-Power Rating: 82, good

Benefits:

  • In recent assessments by air-purifiers-america.com this A-350 eliminated 98% of the contaminants in the device and 97% of the contaminants within the room.
  • The A 350 purifier is great at airborne dirt and dust and plant pollen elimination, yet is also competitively cost-effective costing under $300..
  • So the projected CADR (for basic comparability to mid priced store bought models without having chemical substance blocking capability ) is 203.
  • The manufacturer guarantees 95% of purchases are going to be delivered within Twenty four hours, and also features a straight forward return policy.

Problems:

  • Significant gas and smell elimination is really a necessity if health benefits can be envisioned: Models with actual carbon VOC ability position higher.
  • Alen A350 air purifier sound amounts will be over normal: 36 decibels(A)on low setting, 65 decibels(A)@214cfm on highest setting. 65 decibels(A) isn’t the loudest, but 214cfm is fairly weak for that amount of noise.
  • The organization doesn’t sell direct, yet drop ships air cleaners marketed by merchants.

2. ConsumerSearch.com: URL

csnew_logo

Provides some reservations that the A350 should only be used in smaller rooms.

Benefits:

  • Highlights that this particular purifier can be mounted on the wall
  • States that the replacement filters  are relatively cheap
  • Mentions that the A350 comes with a Lifetime warranty

Problems:

  • Talks about how come consumers mention that the power supply causes a "humming" sound
  • Indicates that this air purifier should only be used in smaller rooms

CADR Results:

Sadly the A350 has not undergone a CADR test so we can not provide this results for this test. Thankfully Ed at air-purifier-power has worked out that this purifier has a similar ranking to a CADR ranking of 203.

The Alen A350 therefore has an estimated score of: 203 CADR Ranking

Technology Used:

air-purifier_Review_particle_size

1.HEPA Filter

The Alen A350 uses one combined HEPA, carbon and pre-filter in one unit. The only issue this raises is price as the purifier requires this combined filter to be changed every six months. Currently you can purchase the A350 filters on amazon.com for $49.99 which is not too bad but bear in mind that you will need to replace these twice each year – so it’s $100 per year. If I compare this with other purifiers that use Lifetime HEPA such as the Honeywell 50250-N, the A350 is considerably more costly to run.

2. Ionizer Function

One of the nice benefits of the Alen A350 is that it comes packaged with an inbuilt non-ozone ionizer unit. Normally i would suggest that people steer clear of ionizer only units but when combined with a strong HEPA filter it can help improve cleaning efficiency. The ionizer unit will charge the surrounding particles with a negative charge which will mean that these particles are heavier and thus picked up more easily by the HEPA filter. Negative ions have also been shown to imbue of sense of well being but this still has not been confirmed by scientific studies. If you are not sure about the ionizer then you can easily disable the function using the  a on-off switch at the top of the unit.

Power Consumption

The A350 has a Energy Star Rating which should reduce it’s electricity to just pennies per day.

Addressing the Sound Problem

Some reviews have mentioned that the A350 has a whining sound when running. In tests we came across no such noise and believe that this whining sound was down to broken air purifiers. On the highest setting the A350 creates a noise level of 65 dB which is relatively  loud. In the video below I show the Alen a350 working at each different sound level so you can evaluate if it’s too loud for your home.

Whilst the purifier is loud at the level 5 setting, its unlikely that you would need to leave it at this level for much time. I am quite happy with the sound output at the lowest level and so would not find a problem sleeping with it running in my bedroom.

Conclusion

This purifier provides a significant amount of cleaning for the small price of just under $400. It can be used in medium sized rooms (400 square feet recommended) and has the ability to successfully remove all types of particles. My only issue with this purifier relates to the cost of replacement filters ($100 each year) and the lack of VOC capabilities.

When comparing with other purifiers you should make sure that you take into account the $100 a year cost as some Lifetime HEPA filters will work out far cheaper in the long-run and may outweigh the initial extra cost.

The Alen A350 air purifier is currently the highest rated purifier in my medium range ($200-$700) purifiers and I give it a 5 star rating.

Air-Purifier-Power Rating: 80, good

Benefits:

  • Here’s what I find nice about Honeywell air purifier’s durable, basic style. It is made from solid, powerful plastic material, and also sealed closed with a bolt about half inch by 5 in.
  • Quite a few low-cost HEPA air purification products are made of numerous parts, along with splits and seams which leak.

Problems:

  • Just what is not so great is the noises this Honeywell 50250 creates: it is fairly loud. 50250′s Sound spec is 35/45/57 decibels (A), however that appears understated.
  • Yet I hardly ever utilize it within the bed room, for it is a little loud for me to snooze with, even using the low setting.
  • Not fantastic for light sleepers.

Owners and also specialists are usually fond of the Honeywell Enviracaire 50250-N air cleaner

Benefits:

The actual comprehensive agreement is that this particular model is acceptable for the cost that is charged.

Problems:

First, this particular low-cost air cleaner is not designed for large rooms, and 2nd, it is extremely loud.

CADR Results:

Any CADR, is determined by The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, it informs all of us not just the amount of air which is purified, but additionally exactly how well it’s purified. Air purifiers which have been examined by AHAM must have the AHAM Qualified seal and also CADR figures for 3 contaminants: cigarette smoke, plant pollen, and airborne dirt and dust. The larger the CADR score, the more efficient the air cleaner is in opposition to that pollutant.

The Honeywell HEPA 50250-N scored: 250 CADR Ranking

Technology Used:

air-purifier_Review_particle_size

The Honeywell 50250-N utilizes HEPA technology and has an extremely large filter in comparison to the size and price of the unit. Ed, from air-purifier-power stated that he had seen 18 wheelers with smaller filters!  HEPA filters are able to remove 97.97% of particles bigger than 0.3 microns which removes most air borne dust, pollen and allergens.

This HEPA filters used are lifetime versions so you will be able to vacuum the filter rather than just throwing it away and replacing it. However, don’t expect this lifetime filter to last till your 80 as it still degrades over time.

NOTE! Watch out for the old 50250 without the N at the end. These older purifiers do not come with the lifetime HEPA filters and will require changing far more frequently.

Power Consumption

Air purifiers will often be required to be used for a large proportion of the day so energy costs both ecologically and economically should be taken into account. The 50250-N uses the following power settings:

  • Low = 50 Watts
  • Medium = 120 Watts
  • High = 170 Watts

Leaving this purifier on the high rating 24 hours a day will cost the same as leaving on two non-energy saving light bulbs

Addressing the Sound Problem

Many reviewers note that the 50250-N purifier is very loud on the highest setting. To give you an idea of how loud, we have put together a video + sounds that show the 50250 purifier running at its highest setting. Ed @ air-purifier-power states that he won’t use this purifier in his bedroom because of the sound.

Personally I think this purifier is too loud for my bedroom but would not be a problem in my kitchen or dining room area.

Conclusion

This is a solid purifier and is very good value for money. I personally would not recommend this purifier for usage in the bedroom (at night) but its a very cheap way to clean a small kitchen, dining area or any other small room.

It would not make economic sense to spend $900 on an IQair Healthpro plus for every room of your house – so i recommend using a the Honeywell 50250 in smaller rooms that require clean air. I give this purifier from Honeywell a 5 star rating and itnow  ranks at the top of my list for budget purifiers ($100-$200.)
